Wild Cards

^ Used at the start of a character code to find special characters. For instance, ^p finds paragraph marks, ^t finds tab characters, and ^^ finds the caret character itself.
^# all numbers
^p all paragraph marks
\[*\] and then choose More > Choose Wildcards to remove all brackets and the words in the brackets
* a string of characters: e.g: s*d would find "sad", "started", "sandwiched", etc.
? any single character: e.g: s?t would find "sat", "set", "sit", etc.
@ one or more occurrences of the previous character: e.g: s@t would find "st", "sst", "ssst", etc.
[ ] any single character within the brackets: e.g: [aeiou] would find any one vowel.
- Used within square brackets to specify a range. For example, [a-z] represents any lowercase letter, and [0-9] represents any digit.
{ } Specifies a certain number of occurrences of the previous character. For example, 1{2} would find "11", and 1{2,3} would find "11" or "111".
( ) Groups parts of a search expression. For example, (pre)(.*) would find any word that starts with "pre".
< > Marks the beginning and end of a word. For instance, finds "the" but not "there"
! Represents the negation when used inside square brackets. For example, [!x-z] finds any character that is not x, y, or z.
\ Escapes a wildcard character if you need to find it literally. For example, \* finds an asterisk.

Using VBA to find and replace symbols

ALT + F11 (to open the VBA editor)
right-click on your document's name under "Microsoft Word Objects"
Insert > Module
to delete the symbols such as µ, £, €, for example, run the following code:

                Case "µ", "£", "€"
                   char.Delete

press "run"
Anything in quotes after "Case" in the above code is case-sensitive.
